In the last few years we have seen major retailers across the United States take chances on closing on major holidays. Remember, it wasn't long ago that retailers would be open on Thanksgiving Day. Now, many are closed. They also close on Christmas. But this is the first time I remember a major retailing closing for Easter.

But that's exactly what one big retailer is doing.

Target Will Close For Easter Sunday

Target has released its plans for the year when it comes to holidays that they are closed or plan to have different store hours. In addition to being closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, Target is now closing all stores in Texas and across the nation on Easter Sunday.

Easter this year falls on Sunday, April 20.

The idea behind closing for Easter is so that all employees will have the day off to spend with family if they should so choose.

Personally, I think it's a great idea to let families be together and Easter is one of those great holidays where families enjoy gathering together. Is there a threat to the bottom line when it comes to business? Sure. But maybe this will lead to other retailers closing on Easter in the future and allowing their employees a day to spend with family.

Look at Chick-fil-A, they are closed every Sunday and they are still doing great in the fast food wars.

Other National Retailers Closed on Easter Sunday

Some other national retailers that are reportedly closed on Easter Sunday include:

  • Best Buy
  • Costco
  • Kohl's
  • Michael's
  • Lowe's

So if you plan on doing some shopping at Target for Easter... on Easter morning, scratch that idea and get your shopping done early.
