Two Texas Elementary School Teachers Are Under Investigation For Hitting Autistic Student
An investigation is underway in Millsap ISD after video surfaced showing two teachers allegedly hitting a young boy who is autistic and non-verbal. The incident took place at Millsap Elementary, which is located west of Fort Worth.
State education officials along with the sheriff's department, and Child Protective Services are all investigating the incident.
According to FOX 4 in Dallas, video shows a Millsap ISD teacher allegedly slapping at the young boy inside a special needs classroom. While the boy is walking away, another teacher, who remains seated, starts yelling at the boy and hitting him with a toy. The video was taken by another educator in the classroom.
The child's mother said that in the full video, her son flinches away from the teachers multiple times.
"He doesn’t flinch at us because we don’t spank him. He doesn’t get spanked. We don’t use physical force to discipline him he’s at a 3-year-old level," said Carissa. "What good does that do? He’s special needs."
FOX reports that both the principal and vice principal have been put on administrative leave and the two teachers in the video have been fired.
The district says it also "utilized an outside investigator to investigate the allegations," which led to the Millsap Elementary School’s principal and assistant principal being placed on administrative leave.
The investigation continues. Millsap ISD did tell FOX that they reported the incident to both CPS and the State Board of Education.
