Texas Tech University Enrollment Continues To Increase

Texas Tech University for the first time has seen enrollment numbers soar past 42,000 for the first time in its history. Texas Tech continues to grow year after year, seeing a 3% increase increase in enrollment since last fall. Texas Tech also announced that this was the fourth year in a row that they have seen enrollment increase.

According to a press release, Texas Tech's 12th-class-day enrollment was 42,272 students. That's an increase of 1,200 students from last fall semester.

What Is Driving Texas Tech's Growth?

As Texas Tech continues to grow, many have wondered what is driving the growth in enrollment numbers. According to Texas Tech, it's the number of new college students coming to Texas Tech.

A driving force behind the rise is the record number of students enrolling in college for the first time. To start the fall semester, Texas Tech welcomed more than 7,600 first-time-in-college students, an 11.7% increase from 2024. This represents the largest class of first-time students in school history, breaking the previous record set in 2023.

This surge pushes Texas Tech’s total number of undergraduates to 33,996 with another 8,276 graduate students.

Texas Tech's Growth Benefits Lubbock

As Texas Tech grows, Lubbock grows and benefits as well. The more students the better for the local economy. And as freshmen continue their education, they rent homes and apartments and contribute even more to the local economy.
