Two Texas Fugitives Wanted for Sex Crimes Captured in One Week
The streets in Texas are a little bit safer now that two fugitives on the Texas 10 Most Wanted List have been captured. Both men were wanted for sex crimes against children.
The Arrest of Carl James Hegert
40-year-old Carl James Hegert was on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list since October 2025 for larceny—stealing another's property without the use of violence, threats, or fraud—and failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements.
Hegert was captured in an apartment in Houston on February 18 thanks to multi-agency efforts from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Highway Patrol, and the Texas Anti-Gang Violent Crimes Unit in Houston.
Hegert's criminal history began in 2006 when he was charged with theft of a firearm, sexual assault of a child, assault causing bodily injury to a family member, and delivery of a controlled substance, among others.
Because Hegert's arrest was not a result of an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip, the $3,000 reward was not paid.
Brien Keith Coleman: Texas Fugitive Finally Captured
39-year-old Brien Keith Coleman had been wanted out of McLennan County since December 29, 2025, for indecency with a child by sexual contact.
Through information gained via investigations, DPS agents were able to conduct a traffic stop on Coleman and place him in custody.
Coleman was previously arrested in September 2023 for a prior conviction of indecency with a child by sexual contact. He then violated his protective order just months later in December and bonded out of jail shortly thereafter.
