Why Are So Many People Moving to Texas?
Texas is ranked second when it comes to states with the highest populations, and that number is rapidly growing. Why?
From 2000 to 2022, Texas increased its population by 43%, gaining over 9 million new residents in that time span, with Harris County receiving the greatest number of newbies (1,366,674). Also, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 412,000 residents are added annually to Texas, on average.
Also in 2022 alone, over 100,000 Californians moved to Texas, thanks to a number of factors.
So, what's with this giant surge to The Lone Star State?
Economic opportunities
While Texas has one of the largest economies in the world, it also leads the rest of the states in oil production at just under 2 billion barrels produced thus far.
Texas was also named the second-best state to start a small business, according to a new report. With affordable tax frameworks and no income tax, you'd be hard-pressed to find opening a small business from the ground up easier in any other state.
Texas contains headquarters for some of the world's top companies as well, including Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, AT&T, Dell Technologies and McKesson.
Sports and entertainment
With Texas A&M, Baylor, UT Austin and Texas Tech, there are so many great college sports teams and universities that make Texas proud. Not to mention the myriad of professional sports teams who call Texas home.
Texas also boasts countless landmarks and attractions that are fun for the whole family from the Alamo to the Dr. Pepper Museum, and everything in between.
So, the next time you wonder why your next-door neighbors seem to get closer and more abundant, instead of shaking your fist, just remember: our beautiful state is just so appealing that everyone want's a taste.
