Winter Storm Slams Texas Causing Airport Delays, Closures, Accidents, and More
The winter storm that was predicted to hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area arrived on Thursday and things seem to be a mess throughout North Texas.
According to the latest forecasts, anywhere from 2 to 5 inches (or more) of snow and a wintery mix is expected between Thursday and Friday in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Snow and sleet began falling overnight and winter weather continues right now.
The conditions have led to schools being cancelled, slick streets leading to numerous accidents, and over 1,600 flights cancelled as of 11:30am at DFW Airport and Love Field. In fact, a ground stoppage was issued in the morning at DFW Airport due to snow and ice.
North Texas wasn't the only area of Texas impacted by winter weather on Thursday. Snow fell throughout the Panhandle and South Plains while Lubbock has seen just a small amount of snow, those in the Panhandle has seen more snow throughout the morning so far. Winter weather continued into the Big Country and Abilene and as far south as the Hill Country. Later this afternoon, portions of the South Plains and Panhandle could see more snow, same for the Dallas-Fort Worth area which could see a mix of rain, sleet and snow. South of the DFW, Texans are likely to see more rain.
The winter weather conditions throughout the state have led to school or work delays and closures on Thursday.
