Texas Tech Snaps Losing Skid in Victory Over TCU

Quarterback Behren Morton returned to the starting lineup after missing the last game and half due to injuries and led the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a comeback win over the Texas Christian Horned Frogs 35-28 Thursday night in Lubbock. The victory snaps a two-game losing streak for the Red Raiders and brings their record to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in Big 12 Conference play. The loss drops the Frogs to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12. The win also give Tech the Saddle Trophy in the West Texas Championship in a rivalry dating back to 1926.

The Red Raiders and Frogs exchanged opening drive punts before the Morton led Tech on a 14-play, 81 yard drive that ended on a Morton 9-yard touchdown run on 4^th down to take a 7-0 lead. The Frogs would answer with a quick scoring drive to even it up at 7-7 before the end of the opening quarter. The Red Raiders would dominate the Frogs in the second quarter outscoring them 13-0 with a pair of Gino Garcia field goals of 27 and 55 yards. Sandwiched between the field goals was 25-yard score to Miles Price.

Morton was more than effective going 28-36 for 282 yards with two touchdowns in the air and one on the ground. Morton was able to throw during the week at practice for the first time since before the West Virginia game nearly five weeks ago.

TCU would come back in the 3^rd quarter and take a 21-20 lead before Tahj Brooks would give Tech the lead back on a yard run before the end of the 3^rd quarter for 28-21 lead for the Red Raiders. Tech would get the ball back and score on a 44-yard pass from Morton to Drae McCray to extend the lead to 35-21. The Frogs would add a late score, but Tech would hold on for the 35-28 win.

The Red Raiders face the No. 21 Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, November 11^th in Lawrence with a game time yet to be determined.
