Public Health Alert! Texas Check Your SPAM Cans
Nooooooo...not the SPAM.
The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert for SPAM. The alert was released due to the under-processing of the product. The alert was issued to warn those consumers who have purchased this product not to eat it.
What does under-processing mean?
It means that the SPAM was not properly processed to reach commercial sterility. The product was inadvertently shipped.
Why a public health alert and not a recall?
The product in question is believed not to be available for purchase any longer. However, this product might be in consumer pantries.
The Spam product in question was produced by Hormel Food Corp. Services, LLC. It' is the 12-oz SPAM Classic metal can.
The cans have a Best by Aug 2026 date and lot code A08173 on the bottom of the can. The can also has the establishment number, EST. 199 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were shipped to H.E.B.'s in Texas. If you bought SPAM Classic at HEB in the last few months, check the cans in your pantry.
The USDA/FSIS has not received any reports of illness due to eating these particular cans of SPAM.
If you have this product with the above best-buy dates and lot codes, throw them away or return them to the store of purchase.
