Rep. Jodey Arrington Named First-Ever ‘Taxpayer Defender of the Month’
House Budget Chairman and West Texas native Jodey Arrington has a new honor to celebrate: he’s been named the first-ever Taxpayer Defender of the Month by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU). The award, announced Thursday, recognizes lawmakers who fight for fiscal discipline, transparency, and taxpayer protections.

In a statement, Arrington said, “I’m honored to be named the first-ever Taxpayer Defender of the Month by the National Taxpayers Union. Folks in West Texas work hard, live within their means, and expect their government to do the same. As Budget Chairman, I’m laser-focused on reining in spending, rooting out woke and wasteful programs, reducing the cost of living for hardworking families, and returning power back to We the People — exactly what we’re delivering through the One Big Beautiful Bill”.
His efforts in championing the recently passed “One Big Beautiful Bill” – a sweeping reconciliation package featuring historic tax cuts, border security investments, and energy policy reforms – solidified his nomination . Brandon Arnold, Executive Vice President of the NTU, lauded him: “He’s not afraid to get in the weeds on tax and budget issues, and he did much of the heavy lifting … to make it better for taxpayers in Texas and across the country”.
Arrington’s ties to Lubbock are deep. A Texas Tech alumnus and former president of Scott Laboratories in town, he has served the 19th Congressional District since 2017. As Budget Chairman, he has prioritized securing lower taxes for families, cracking down on government waste, and advancing energy independence.
The NTU—one of the nation’s foremost taxpayer advocacy organizations since 1977—developed this monthly award to spotlight members of Congress and federal officials who consistently promote limited taxation, prudent spending, and less regulation.
For Lubbock residents, Arrington’s national recognition underscores local representation punching above its weight in Washington. It also highlights his ongoing work to shape the federal budget, fight inflation, and rein in bureaucratic overreach.
As the Taxpayer Defender of the Month, Arrington earns a spotlight for his principled fiscal leadership. West Texas voters will be watching closely to see how this momentum unfolds—especially as the Senate and the White House weigh in on final negotiations around the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
