LCSO to Honor K9 Arlo with Procession and Memorial Service
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office is coming together today to honor one of its most loyal public servants--K9 Arlo. The veteran K9, who passed away on October 28th, 2025, will be remembered this afternoon in a special memorial service attended by surrounding agency K9 teams, LSO personnel, Texas Anti-Gang Center affiliates, and local media.

A Dedicated Career Serving Lubbock County
K9 Arlo wasn’t just a working dog; he was a force multiplier for law enforcement across the South Plains. Joining the LSO in December 2021, Arlo quickly became a trusted partner to deputies in some of the toughest situations they faced. During his distinguished career, he assisted in 125 arrests, seized over 34 kilos of narcotics, and helped recover more than $300,000 in illegal funds.

Arlo was also the oldest working K9 in the agency and was just months away from a well-earned retirement scheduled for early 2026. His sudden passing during a training session deeply impacted the department. A medical exam confirmed that Arlo suffered cardiac arrest, most likely caused by a heart attack.
Procession Through Downtown Lubbock
This afternoon’s tribute begins at 1:00pm, as an escort will depart from the veterinary clinic. The procession will make its way down Main Street, passing the Lubbock County Courthouse between 1:10 and 1:20pm before arriving at the LSO Academy at 801 Main Street.
There, the LSO Honor Guard will be stationed outside, ready to receive Arlo with the respect and ceremony he earned over years of service to Lubbock County.
Memorial Service and Public Tribute
The formal memorial service will take place inside classrooms 1 and 2 of the LSO Academy. Speakers include Judge Curtis Parrish, Lt. Chris Daniel, and Sheriff Kelly Rowe, each sharing reflections on Arlo’s legacy, dedication, and impact on public safety throughout the South Plains.

Following the service, a memorial wreath honoring K9 Arlo will be placed in the public lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. The wreath will remain on display through December 8th, giving Lubbock residents an opportunity to stop by, pay respects, and honor a K9 who served his community proudly.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Resthaven Funeral Home and Lone Star Decorating for assisting with preparations and ensuring a meaningful tribute to K9 Arlo.
