Listen to the full interview with Kade Wilcox below:
The race for House District 84 in the Republican primary got even more crowded this week when Lubbock businessman Kade Wilcox announced he would be seeking the seat that Representative John Frullo has held since 2010.
Wilcox officially kicked off his campaign on Monday with an announcement at his business, Primitive in Downtown Lubbock. On Tuesday, Wilcox joined The Chad Hasty Show with Matt Martin on KFYO to discuss his campaign and why he decided to run for office.
Wilcox told KFYO that he loves West Texas and that he wants to protect the values that West Texans hold dear.
I love West Texas. I love our values, I love our spirit, I love everything about West Texas and I want to serve her. I want to preserve the values that we stand for. I want to fight to advocate and advance those values. It's really important to me. To be apart of this open seat is a big deal to me. I believe West Texan's deserve a leader marked by Christian character. I believe West Texan's deserve someone with conservative convictions to be in this position, and I want to be that leader.
Wilcox discussed his professional background including his past in vocational ministry and that he and his wife own numerous businesses in Lubbock. Wilcox told KFYO that his priorities include protecting personal freedoms and liberties and to focus on a limited, small, and efficient government.
Wilcox also told KFYO that he was in favor of the fetal Heartbeat bill.
I think the Heartbeat Bill is amazing. I think Texas should lead the nation in all things pro-life at every turn in every way. I think that bill was remarkable in saving countless babies lives. I think we have to continue to protect that and build upon it. At this point I think Texas has done about as much as it can do from a pro-life standpoint.
Wilcox did say he would like to see how more can be done from a holistic view of being prolife to get the government out of the way so non-profit organizations and churches can have an impact on a family once the baby is born.
When you talk about pro-life, we have to be holistic, not just talk about the life of the child. Really important. It starts there, but we have to have a bigger picture. We have to be really focused on how do we enable them for future success.
