TCU Football Player KaVontae Turpin Arrested for Assaulting Female Family Member
Texas Christian University football player KaVontae Turpin was arrested after allegedly attacking a female family member.
Tarrant County Jail records showed Turpin was booked for Assault With Bodily Injury of a Family Member, a Class A misdemeanor, on Sunday, October 21st.
Turpin posted bail and was released from jail Monday morning, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The outlet spoke to a Fort Worth police spokesperson, who did not identify the woman who was allegedly assaulted, but said that the "family member" status could either refer to an actual relative or someone in a relationship with Turpin.
TCU spokeswoman Holly Ellman released the following statement following the arrest:
Texas Christian University is aware that one of its students was recently arrested for a reported domestic situation. The university takes these types of reports very seriously and is continuing to gather information to determine next steps. TCU expects its students to behave in an ethical manner, abide by campus policies and adhere to state and federal law. The student also may face a charge of violating the University Code of Student Conduct, the results of which are independent and separate from any legal charges.
In their reporting of Turpin's arrest, CBS Sports called him "one of the best players on the Horned Frogs' roster," touting his 99-yard kickoff return touchdown against Oklahoma. The Dallas News' SportsDay closed their coverage of the arrest with Turpin's 2018 season and career stats. And the Star-Telegram touted Turpin's no. 2 rank in the Big 12 conference for all-purpose yards.
If convicted of Assault With Bodily Injury of a Family Member, KaVontae Turpin faces up to one year in prison and a $4,000 fine.
