We’re Not Monkeying Around With These ‘King Kong’ Secrets
If you saw 2005’s King Kong, you saw the great ape take on a giant T. rex. But did you know that scene was a close recreation of a similar battle in the original 1933 King Kong? In fact, both versions end with Kong playing with the jaw of the dead dinosaur. (Spoiler alert.) That’s just one of the facts featured in the newest episode of You Think You Know Movies!
The second King Kong was released in 1976. In its climax, Kong climbed the recently completed World Trade Center instead of the Empire State Building. That led to an uncomfortable situation after 9/11, because the DVD cover for the film featured Kong perched between the two Twin Towers, swatting at airplanes. Universal voluntarily recalled all the discs, and replaced them with a cover that didn’t feature the buildings. (You can often find the original version on eBay.)
