Several Outlets Report That Kliff Kingsbury Is Headed to USC as Offensive Coordinator
Update (December 4th, 11 a.m.): More evidence that Kliff Kingsbury has indeed reached an agreement with USC came out Tuesday morning.
Radio show host Colin Cowherd had two sources tell him that Kingsbury is headed to Southern California.
Meanwhile, Fox Sports 1 reporter Bruce Feldman, who originally told people to "pump the brakes" on the idea that Kingsbury would head to USC, is also now reporting it.
And last but not least, ESPN is also reporting that Kingsbury will be USC's next offensive coordinator.
Original story: Former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury may have already landed on his feet.
Not one week after being fired by Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt for "a three-year pattern of inconsistency," Kingsbury is reportedly set to take over as Offensive Coordinator for the University of Southern California Trojans.
Citing "a source close to the USC football program," Trojan Insider's Scott Schrader reported Thursday that Kingsbury would take on the job.
Several other outlets with inside sources have echoed Schrader's report.
However, FOX Sports/FS1 reporter Bruce Feldman cautioned media to "pump the brakes" after he spoke to Kingsbury's agent, who alluded to the USC reports as "premature."
Kingsbury was fired Sunday, November 25th after a season-ending loss to Baylor, which squashed the team's hopes for a post-season bowl game. The loss put Kingsbury at 35-40 overall in his six seasons as head coach at Texas Tech.
In a press conference, Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt explained why the decision to cut ties with Kingsbury was made.
"This type of decision...it's not based on one game. This type of decision is not based on one season. This decision was made based on a three-year pattern of inconsistency," said Hocutt. "We didn't come here to win five, six games for our football season to end in November. There was a pattern of inconsistency that led us to this decision at this time. We saw progress at times, and we talked about that. We saw progress. But we also saw lapses of progress in key critical areas that, in the game of football, are critical to have the level of sense that we all want to have."
Since then, current reports have named Utah State head coach Matt Wells as the frontrunner for Kingsbury's old job -- a choice that has garnered a fair share of criticism from fans.
