Lady Raiders’ Coach Krista Gerlich is Ready for Some Madness
Head coach of the Lady Raiders got her 300th win as a head coach in the season opener last week. Now the Lady Raiders move forward in the season with a renewed optimism and a buzz growing around Gerlich's bunch.
Coach Gerlich talked about her new players, the quest to get to a 15-year high in season ticket sales and Vivian Grey's return and what that signifies for the program.
Listen to the intire interview with Ryan Hyatt and Coach Gerlich below:
The Lady Raiders have had a fun offseason after an offseason full of trials in the previous year. Gerlich was hired just before last season and the team had to deal with the COVID-19 protocols, players transfering out and more. All while trying to instill a new culture and atmosphere around the program.
This year has a new feel though with nine fresh faces and some vital returner, the Lady Raiders have big goals, they also have big fun. The Lady Raiders have been active on TikTok this offseason trying to drum up as much excitement as possible in and around the program.
What are those ambitions for the team? According to Gerlich, they expect to be in the NCAA Tournament come March. Gerlich, who was a player on the National Championship team in the early 90s, knows there is a balance between embracing the past, and forging on into the future.
She also knows that there use to be free pizza involved when the Lady Raiders hit a certain point total, why isn't that a thing anymore?
