Little Things We Love About Lubbock: Cheese Sticks at Spanky’s!

The cheese sticks at Spanky's have been a Lubbock favorite for generations and there's a good reason why. They're huge, gooey yet crispy and altogether incredible!

Since 1982, Red Raiders and people across the country (and the world...probably) have enjoyed the delicious burgers, crispy crinkle fries and awesome atmosphere at Spanky's. But the thing that REALLY sets this Hub City institution apart is their famous cheese sticks!

That's me in the picture above today at lunch. I took my sister and the lovely Esther and we got a LOT of food. I mean, it was actually kind of embarrasing. The table of dudes next to us looked over and said, "Your guys are gonna need a few takeout boxes!"

My sister said, "Actually, this is just the apps."

Yeah. I forgot to mention that the portions are HUGE! Here's my sister being a child and playing with her food. I plan to tell mom.

We went with the 'full order' of 6 cheese sticks. The small order is 3. We should have done the small order. My sister ordered the onion rings too.

You can see why the table next to us made that comment.

By the way, the onion rings were EXCELLENT too! Like, they were as good as any onion rings I've ever eaten. Gigantic, crispy, hot and the rings were overflowing out of the basket! I guess they get overshadowed by those famous cheese sticks.

I also love that they don't use numbers for your order, they use common dog names! Today, we were 'Rover'.

And, finally, a special shoutout to Abigail who took our order. It's always nice to see a smiling face when you're spending your hard-earned money with a business. Nice to meet you, Abigail!
