Littlefield Vehicle Crash Leaves 2 People Dead
A vehicle crash near Littlefield has left two people dead.
KAMC news reports that Littlefield emergency crews responded to reports of a crash that occurred Wednesday morning on East Loop 430 and U.S. Highway 84 just outside of Littlefield. A silver Jeep Liberty driven by 30-year-old Carmen Rodriguez is said to have stopped at the intersection of East Loop 430 and westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 84 while facing South.
According to on-scene statements, while at the stop sign of the intersection Rodriguez failed to yield to right of way approaching traffic. Rodriguez is said to have pulled her vehicle out into the road directly into the path of a fully-loaded Peterbilt Bobtail Truck, which struck the vehicle on the driver's side.
Rodriguez and 13-year-old passenger Rosalin Rodriguez were killed in the crash, while a 5-year-old boy sitting in the back seat suffered a broken leg and a head injury. The boy was taken to University Medical Center where he immediately received surgery. A 2-month-old girl was also found in the back seat of the vehicle, but luckily did not sustain any injuries. Both small children were reportedly in vehicle-approved safety seats.
The driver of the truck, 67-year-old Danny Clawson, was shaken up by the incident and suffered minor injuries to his arm, but refused medical assistance offered at the scene.
