Lubbock’s Carne Guisada Cook-Off Returns To Support Meals On Wheels
Lubbock food lovers, mark your calendars. Big Wick’s has officially announced the return of one of the tastiest community events on the South Plains--the 2nd Annual Carne Guisada Cook-Off, happening Saturday, February 21st at noon at Kitalou Gin, located at 6008 East County Road 6300.

After a wildly successful debut last year, this year’s cook-off is shaping up to be even bigger, bolder, and more flavorful--all while supporting a cause that hits close to home: Idalou Meals on Wheels.
Food, Fun, and Friendly Competition
The Carne Guisada Cook-Off brings together talented local cooks, small businesses, and hungry West Texans for an afternoon that celebrates both food and community. Teams will battle it out for cash prizes for first, second, and third place, with bragging rights on the line for the best carne guisada in the area.

Attendees can expect a full slate of entertainment and activities, including:
Celebrity judges from around the region (I guess I'm considered a 'celebrity' since I'll be judging!)
Live music by Danny Cadra and Casey Cash Heckman
Door prizes throughout the day
A vendor market featuring local businesses
A silent auction benefiting Idalou Meals on Wheels
The event is hosted by Kitalou Gin in partnership with Raider Red Meats, a pairing that feels right at home in West Texas.
Supporting Idalou Meals on Wheels
Beyond the food and fun, the heart of the event is giving back. Proceeds from the cook-off will support Idalou Meals on Wheels, an organization dedicated to providing nutritious meals and meaningful personal connections to local seniors.
In a region where neighbors still look out for one another, this event reinforces what makes Lubbock and the surrounding communities special--showing up, pitching in, and taking care of our own.
Tickets, Teams, and Turnout
Tickets, team registration, and full event details are available now through Eventbrite, and organizers strongly encourage early purchases. Last year’s event exceeded expectations, and this year is expected to draw an even larger crowd.

Big Wick’s also extends a heartfelt thank-you to this year’s sponsors, including Jeff Click Insurance Collective, Big Plate Restaurant Supply, Hub City Slaps, Kitalou Gin, and Raider Red Meats, for helping make the event possible.
West Texas Flavor, Lubbock Roots
Based right here in Lubbock, Big Wick’s has built a loyal following with its smoked jalapeño sauces, seasonings, and bold Texas flavor. Events like the Carne Guisada Cook-Off are a natural extension of that mission--celebrating food, community, and the unmistakable spirit of West Texas.
Bring your appetite, Lubbock. This is one event you won’t want to miss.
