Lubbock City Council Approves 2019-2020 Operating Budget
The Lubbock City Council has approved the 2019-2020 budget. Most notably, it includes a one-cent property tax rate increase, which brings the effective tax rate in Lubbock County to 55.802 per $100 dollar valuation.
The budget plan notes that the one cent increase in property taxes will raise roughly $6,941,281 or 7.85 percent more than the 2018-2019 fiscal year budget.
Each dollar of property taxes collected will be distributed like this: 40.309 cents goes to the General Fund, 13.178 cents will go to the Debt Service Fund, and 2.31 cents will go towards Economic Development.
Estimated funding for the 2019-2020 General Fund totals $226.7 million, according to the plan, and allocates $60 million to the Lubbock Police Department for public safety.
In addition, $2.3 million will go towards Culture and Recreation, $1.5 million for Arts and Entertainment, and $10 million for local street maintenance.
