Today marks the 46th anniversary of the massive F5 (the strongest on the scale from 1 to 5) tornado that struck Lubbock on May 11, 1970.

The center of town was virtually wiped out due to this catastrophic weather event which killed 26 Lubbock residents.

Interestingly, city Civil Defense Director at the time, Bill King, actually put together a meeting of city officials at the old Embers Club to show a video sent by the government regarding severe weather and tornado disasters in particular early in the evening on May 11 when the Hub City's weather took a turn for the worse.
