Lubbock Gas Prices Are Cheaper Than They Were Last Year—And We’re Leading the State
Here’s something we don’t get to say often—Lubbock, Texas is actually leading the state in something cheap. And in this case, it’s something we all use: gasoline.
Better Than Last Year
As of this week (June 6), Lubbock’s average gas price for regular unleaded is holding steady at $2.59 per gallon—which isn’t just good, it’s downright fantastic compared to last year. In fact, we're seeing a $0.25 drop from this time in 2024, and about $0.30 lower than the Texas statewide average, which is sitting at $2.75.

Let me say that again for the folks in the back: Lubbock now has the cheapest average gas price in the entire state.
That means if you're filling up a 15-gallon tank, you're saving almost five bucks every time you stop at the pump compared to last summer. That’s enough for a bag of Doritos, a cold drink, or about half a car wash—take your pick!
So…Why the Drop?
Experts are pointing to a few key reasons:
Crude oil is hanging around the low $70s per barrel, down from peaks we saw last year.
Gasoline inventories are healthy nationwide, meaning the supply is keeping up with demand (even with summer travel kicking off).
Refineries have been operating efficiently, and there haven’t been any major disruptions—yet.
Compare That to the Rest of Texas
Some of our big-city neighbors aren’t feeling as lucky. In places like Dallas, Houston, and Austin, prices are hovering between $2.75 and $2.90 per gallon. Even Amarillo is seeing prices slightly higher than Lubbock right now.

And while we're bragging, here's another stat for you: according to AAA, the statewide average this time last year was $2.98—meaning we’re ALL saving a bit at the pump compared to 2024.
What This Means for You
Whether you're driving out to Ransom Canyon, heading down to the Depot District, or just making your daily trip to Market Street, you can breathe a little easier. With prices this low, it’s the perfect time to plan that West Texas road trip—or at least turn the AC on full blast without guilt.
So keep those tanks full, Lubbock. For once, we’re winning at the pump.
