Lubbock ISD Says Insurance Company Didn’t Pay Full Claim for Storm Damages
Lubbock ISD filed a petition in court against Westchester Surplus Lines Insurance Company for failing to pay the full claim for damages caused by thunderstorms.
KAMC News reports that Lubbock ISD suffered hail and wind damages to several of its campuses from 2019 to 2020. Damages apparently totaled $50 million, but they say that Westchester only paid the district $10 million with no explanation as to why the full amount wasn't paid.
Lubbock ISD said that the "lack of clarification and communication and flat-out failure to adjust the claim" has been going on for the past 2 years. The district is asking the court to investigate the cause of the delay and the underpayment.
It must be noted that this petition is not itself a lawsuit, but lays the groundwork for a lawsuit down the road.
