The Texas Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday, January 18, that Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish will be the new Chairman of the US 82 Texas Corridor Steering Committee.

The Texas Department of Transportation Planning and Programming Division will be conducting a study for US 82. This one year study will contribute to the 575-mile corridor along the Texas/New Mexico state line to the Texas/Arkansas Stateline and it's current state. The purpose behind of the future corridor will be to move people, goods, and services across the state in a faster and safe way.

Judge Curtis Parrish was chosen by the Texas Department of Transportation for his interest in the project as well as his leadership in representing Lubbock County. In a press release the Director of the Texas Department of Transportation Planning and Programming Division, Humberto Gonzalez, stated that

As Chair, Judge Parrish will play a vital role in championing the US 82 Texas Corridor study and representing the study to State and Federal leaders.

The corridor is also expected to boost the economy of Texas with how efficiently it is expected to allow transportation of goods vital to the local economy. The study of the corridor is set to begin third week of January and expected to be successfully completed by Spring of 2024. The US 82 Corridor Steering Committee is comprised of members such as County Judges, Mayors, and business leaders that represent the state of Texas.
