Lubbock Liquor Tales: Locals Share Their Booze Regrets!
There’s something about those first encounters with, let’s say, “spirited” drinks that stick with you. For a lot of us in Lubbock, those memories come with a wince, a laugh, or even a touch of regret. Some of the drink choices you shared brought back wild memories that, frankly, we can all relate to. Let's take a walk down memory lane of the specific booze that made us sick...together.
Buzz Barton confessed his rough history with Southern Comfort, and he’s not alone. I remember it as well, complete with an expressive "" emoji that pretty much says it all. It was a rough night for your buddy Landon!
Then there’s Richard Waite, whose drink of choice was a pre-mixed Tequila Sunrise—perfect for his bachelor party 47 years ago. He says everyone else was chugging beer, but he took a different path, and it didn’t quite pay off by the wedding the next day. I would imagine all of that sugar WITH tequila would make for a bad memory!
A shoutout to the classic concoctions—Sarah Says and Tiffany Burgess Evinger both said "Mad Dog 20/20" with a shiver emoji. It's clear that MD 20/20 left its mark on them...and many other young people who partook Steve Wall kept it classy with Jack Daniel’s, while others experimented with peppermint schnapps (looking at you, Tommy F Davis and Elizabeth Tyler) and even Goldschläger, which Sami Taylor kindly described as “Yucky!” She's right. That stuff is GROSS!
We even had folks like Dennis Metcalf, who got his taste of brandy way too young. Today, his face still says “never again” at the memory. For most of us, these stories are part of our youthful lore—good for laughs, a few cringes, and a reminder to never mix Southern Comfort with Big Red.
Here’s to lessons learned!
