Lubbock Man To Be Sentenced For Causing 6-Car Pileup in 2016
Eloy Salas Jr., 33, will be back in court Thursday, Dec. 19, for the sentencing phase of his ongoing trial. Eloy was found guilty by a jury Wednesday, Dec. 18, of causing a 6-vehicle pileup three years ago.
Salas Jr. led Lubbock police on a car chase on I-27 that ended when he crashed into a string of cars near the Marsha Sharp Freeway exit, injuring multiple people.
Salas Jr. tried to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by a K-9 unit. He was charged with evading and resisting arrest, violating parole, and using a vehicle as a deadly weapon.
In the past, Eloy has served time for family violence, aggravated assault, and endangering a child. After his arrest in 2016, former Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens called Eloy a “menace to everyday life.”
