Lubbock Police Ask the Public for Help in KFC Sign Vandalization
A Lubbock KFC was vandalized overnight with a racial slur that left many employees upset. On the night of April 4, 2023 it was reported that the Lubbock KFC, located at 1208 50th Street, had alterations made to their sign. Those alterations included a derogatory racial term stating that a certain racial group was being sold at the KFC location for two cents.
The statement was seen by employees that morning for the opening shift of the restaurant and was immediately taken down by 10:45 a.m. followed by law enforcement being called. Footage from security cameras was being reviewed and KFC does urge anyone with information to step forward and contact local authorities.
A statement was issued by a KFC spoke person following the incident:
Overnight on April 4th the sign at a local KFC restaurant was vandalized with an appalling message. This is an act of hate through vandalism. After discovering the sign had been vandalized and the letters had been changed overnight, the local restaurant team immediately changed the sign and contacted the police. Hate has no place at any KFC.
The KFC has since put up a sign at the front doors notifying customers of what occurred and that it did have an impact on employees at this location. The note also asks customers to treat the employees with kindness and understanding after the message was taken down from their outside sign.
The Lubbock Police Department urges anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them with any information they think may help locate the suspect(s).
