27-year-old Joseph Sandoval, who was wanted by Lubbock Police for the murder of 33-year-old Edward Mayes, was taken into custody on Friday, January 7th.

Sandoval was arrested at around 6:30 p.m. near 98th Street and Avenue U.

Investigators with the Metro Special Crimes Unit are asking for the public's assistance in finding the suspect involved in a murder on New Year's night.

On Saturday, January 1st, Lubbock Police responded to the 900 block of East Slaton Road a bit after 10 p.m. This was in reference to reports of shots fired.

On arrival, officers located 33-year-old Edward Mayes with a gunshot wound. Mayes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in locating the suspect, 27-year-old Joseph Sandoval, who is considered armed and dangerous. He's described as a Hispanic male standing at 5'04", weighing 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Sandoval, on top of having a warrant for the murder of Mayes, has a warrant for escape from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. It's said that he was in federal custody when he walked away from a halfway house in December of 2021.

Anyone that may have information on Sandoval's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000 or Detective Gerber at 806-239-1248. Information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.
