Lubbock Police Assist In Recovering 2 Sex Trafficking Victims
If you don't think sex trafficking happens in Lubbock or throughout West Texas, think again. This past Friday, a joint law enforcement operation took place involving the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lubbock Police, Levelland Police, and the Hockley County Sheriff's Department.
According to the Department of Public Safety, eight people were arrested for Solicitation of Prostitution while one person was arrested for Prostitution.
During the operation, two victims of sex trafficking were rescued and eight people were arrested. Law enforcement stepped up the operation after noticing posts online that was advertising "commercial sex" in the area according to KAMC.
On Friday, July 22, 2022, The Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, working with the Lubbock Police Department Special Operations, the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office, and the Levelland Police Department, worked a Demand Reduction operation. Law enforcement officers working in the Northwest Texas region had observed a number of web-based commercial sex advertisements, which indicated a demand for commercial sex in the area. Law Enforcement knows human traffickers can exploit this demand. Thus, a proactive approach is beneficial for the community in suppressing sex trafficking and recovering victims of sexual exploitation.
Eight subjects were arrested for Solicitation of Prostitution, a State Jail Felony. One subject was arrested for Prostitution, a Class B Misdemeanor, and two victims of sex trafficking were recovered.
Three people from Lubbock were arrested in the operation. One person from each, Amarillo, Sundown, Odessa, Decatur, and Levelland were also arrested in the operation this past Friday night.
