One in Jail, One Fighting for Their Life After Hit-and-Run
A potential hit and run is under investigation by Lubbock police. The call came in Thursday night (April 26) at around 7:30 p.m.
Officers arrived at the scene in the 1700 block of east 24th Street, where they found one person injured in a vehicle accident. The victim was quickly taken to Covenant Medical Center with possible life-threatening injuries, according to the Lubbock Police Department.
The victim was reportedly driving a passenger vehicle when it was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of 24th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the pickup, 33-year-old Juan Tanguma, may have been driving drunk.
Police say that Tanguma attempted to flee the scene after the accident, but was kept there by a witness and later taken into custody.
As of Friday morning, Tanguma has been charged with Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury, Intoxicated Assault With a Vehicle and Miscellaneous State and City Laws.
