Going to the DMV is a major pain! The long wait lines, the paperwork, the bad attitudes from every person there, including the employees. It's the WORST!

But I have a 'Lubbock Hack' for you: Just go to Slaton.

That's right! You'll save yourself the headache of the big city DMV and it's just 15-20 minutes outside of town!

They do inspections, license renewal, registration and more at Smith Auto Family and the people are SO nice! It's also cool that inspections and registrations are right there in the same room basically.

On their website, they say:

At the Slaton Office we can help with all your motor vehicle needs including automobile, trailer, motorcycle registration, title transfers/new residents, title services, disabled license plates and placards, specialty plate requests (except those issued by My Plates).

We also provide TxDPS services including renewing and replacing driver’s license and identification cards. Schedule an appointment here.

And here's a list of all the services they offer:

Motor Vehicle Services

Driver's License Services

I discovered the convenience of going to Slaton for my tags when I had to get a license plate for my golf cart, of all things. The DMV in Lubbock and the location at City Bank were both out of the special plates I had to get, so my retired friend, RT (who comes in handy for tips like this pretty often), told me just to head to the little town to the east and they would have them. And, sure enough, they did!

Plus they were super friendly and it took me about as long as it took for me to read the little sign telling customers the other services they provide before I had my plates and was out the door!
