Lubbock Races for the Cure to Help Beat Breast Cancer [Photos, Video]
Thousands gathered outside the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center early Saturday morning to do their part to help the Susan G. Komen foundation fight breast cancer.
The 2014 Race for the Cure offered a 5K and one-mile run, both benefiting breast cancer research. According to the the Susan G. Komen Lubbock affiliate, 75 cents of every dollar raised stays in the Lubbock area to support their mission work - screenings, mammograms and education, while 25 cents of every dollar raised by Komen supports national research programs.
Breast cancer ignores race, religion, gender and age. In response, the people who gathered in Lubbock came from all walks of life: the young and old, black, white, Hispanic, male, female -- even pets were spotted in the crowd wearing pink.
