Lubbock SWAT Team Arrests man Near Elementary School Threatening Suicide
The Lubbock Police Department had to call the SWAT team for reinforcements this afternoon. The Lubbock Police Department received a report of a domestic disturbance around 1 p.m. this afternoon, August 26th.
Police were dispatched to the area of the 6000 block of 78th Street where officers discovered 30-year-old Ryan Kohls. KAMC news reported that Kohls was violating a protective order and was not supposed to be at the residence. While not a threat to the public reports state that Kohl had a knife and was threatening to kill himself when officers arrived. The residence was behind Crestview Elementary School which forced Frenship ISD to take to social media to let parents and guardians know that the campus was in no immediate danger.
Right now, police and SWAT are responding to a situation in the neighborhood behind Crestview Elementary. There is NO threat to the campus or students and police are handling the isolated situation. However, we ask that parents be patient with us during dismissal. You may see a heavy police presence in the area, and you may come across some roads that are blocked off in the surrounding area. Dismissal and pickup may take a bit longer than usual."
