Police say a Lubbock teenager was arrested Tuesday (August 20) morning for firing multiple shots at an officer and his K-9.

In a press conference held Tuesday, August 20th, LPD Assistant Chief Neal Barron said the incident began Monday at 12:30 a.m. as a report that a vehicle had been stolen in the 2000 block of 29th Street.

Roughly two hours later at 2:30 a.m, a police officer found the stolen vehicle in the 4900 block of Avenue G and was led on a short chase.

When the stolen vehicle stopped in the 4200 block of Avenue N, four suspects got out and tried to flee on foot. When the officer and his K-9 chased one of the suspects into a backyard, that suspect reportedly fired multiple shots and wounded the K-9.

The officer then returned fire, wounded the suspect and took them into custody. The suspect, identified as a 14-year-old male, was taken to UMC for non-life-threatening injuries and the wounded K-9 named Max was taken to a vet.

The three other suspects that fled the scene have yet to be located and are considered armed and dangerous.
