A Lubbock teenager is in custody for their involvement in a shooting that occurred on Tuesday.

Lubbock Police have arrested and charged a 13-year-old male with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 10. It was initially reported that the shooting took place in the 1500 block of 29th Place, where officers found a wounded 16-year-old nearby. The teenager was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

Detectives with the LPD's Crimes Against Children division began an investigation of the shooting and determined that false information had been given in the case. The initial story was that the wounded 16-year-old victim was walking with two other juveniles when an unknown assailant opened fired on them without cause.

Now, detectives believe the shooting didn't occur where the victim was found and that there was not an unknown shooter. As a result, a 13-year-old boy who was with the 16-year-old at the time of the shooting has been arrested and charged.

The case remains under investigation as detectives try and piece the real story together.
