Lubbock Woman Shares Her Side of the Story About 4th of July Parade Brawl

A victim in a fight that broke out at Lubbock’s Fourth on Broadway on Monday, July 4th, is speaking out.

KAMC news reports that Savana Peña appears in video of the physical altercation at the popular Lubbock parade. The original video of the fight went viral, with over 200,000 views.

Peña said her family was there early to get a good seat since it tend to get crowded. People were later instructed to get behind a white line in the road for safety reasons. When no one listened, that’s when Peña asked police for help. However, she said they were too busy keeping control of another section.

Peña then started asking people to back up so kids wouldn’t be in the streets. She believes that one family took her request personally, resulting in the confrontation.

Parade attendees tried to break up the altercation, but after some time both Peña's family and the other family did end up leaving. Peña says she was confronted in the parking lot by a woman from the other family, who can be seen in the video wearing a blue shirt, who was in her vehicle. During this confrontation, the woman allegedly backed up her vehicle and struck Peña.

It's unknown at this time if the woman that struck Peña with her vehicle will face any charges. Peña wasn't seriously hurt, but did receive a few scrapes after being hit with the vehicle. She told KLBK neither she nor her family are mad and wished things had happened differently.

"I'd want to let the family know that I’m not mad at them," Pena told KLBK. "I mean, my family, I’m not mad at them. Things happen. And I just wish it would have happened a different way."
