It looks like Lubbock won't be without Hawaiian BBQ for too long.

Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ is coming to Lubbock, and they are hoping to open soon. The problem? Like so many others out there, they are waiting for equipment to arrive and supply shortages along with delays have caused Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ to delay the opening.

Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ is actually going to be doing things a bit different when they do open. Instead of opening a sit down restaurant, they will be open for take out, call-ins, and delivery through all the major 3rd party delivery apps. In addition to take out and delivery, Mahalo is hoping to have a food truck ready to roll in February or March. The food truck will be used for different events and catering.

While the menu is still being finalized, previous posts on social media indicate they will have Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, BBQ shortribs, Katsu Chicken, Mac Salad, and Mahalo Sauce.

So when will Mahalo open? Hopefully in December according to their Facebook page.

We have been getting several messages about opening day and a couple others. We hope to open as early at December but no later than February. We are waiting on some equipment to come in. With supply shortages and logistics delays this is determining when we can open. We plan to start hiring soon when we have a closer idea on when the exact opening week will be. We are currently finalizing our menu. Our goal is to provide fresh food with minimal wait times. We will be located in a building off of Frankford between 54th and 57th street. We will only be open for take out, call ins and delivery through all major 3rd party delivery services such as DoorDash, Grubhub and UberEats at the moment.

In October, the owners told our own Kelsee Pittman that they wouldn't be open until Spring of 2022, so hopefully that timeline of delayed equipment has improved.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait to try Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ when they open. Hopefully, they get their supplies in soon and can begin the hiring process.
