Patrick Mahomes Is Coming Back to Lubbock for a Huge Texas Tech Game This Fall

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Texas Tech legend Patrick Mahomes is once again showing major love to the Red Raiders—and this time, it’s personal.

McGuire Confirmed the News

During a recent interview, Texas Tech head football coach Joey McGuire let it slip that Mahomes plans to be in the house for one of the biggest games of the 2025 season—Tech’s November 8 home showdown against BYU. With both teams looking like legit Big 12 title contenders this year, it’s shaping up to be a game you do not want to miss.

According to McGuire, the confirmation came during Mahomes' charity golf event in Las Vegas.

“I played in his foundation tournament in Vegas. We took some Red Raiders out there, and the NFL schedule had just dropped. As soon as he walks in, he makes a beeline for me and says, ‘I’ll be at the BYU game, man. I’m gonna be there. I’ve already been talking so much trash to Coach Reid. In fact, I’m going to make him come with me, so you better win that game.’”

Yes—you read that right. Mahomes plans to bring Chiefs head coach Andy Reid with him to Lubbock.

Mahomes Loves Lubbock

This level of support is nothing new. Mahomes has made it clear time and time again that his heart is still in the 806. Just last year, he dropped $5 million toward the $242 million renovation of Jones AT&T Stadium’s south end zone, and helped launch the Mahomes Legacy Fund—a $10 million NIL initiative supporting Tech athletes.

The Nov. 8 matchup with BYU will be just the third meeting between the two schools. BYU took the W in 2023 with a 27-14 victory, but Tech owns the only other win, and they’ll be looking to tip the scales back in their favor with Mahomes watching from the stands.
