Mark Adams Ready to Introduce Brand New Team to College Basketball
The Big 12 coaches picked the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team as 5th in the Big 12 Preseason poll. They were tied with Oklahoma State and behind Texas, Baylor, Kansas, and TCU. Now, they open the season ranked 25th in the country and are behind the same five teams, but TCU is the lowest-ranked Big 12 team at 14th before it gets to Texas Tech at 25.
Somehow all at once, Texas Tech is underrated and properly rated all at once. The Big 12 is the toughest basketball conference in the country, that's proven by four teams falling inside the top 14, and Texas Tech is the 5th-ranked team, but still in the top 25.
The SEC is the only conference that compares, and the Big Ten wasn't even in the Top 10.
The Red Raiders are in a great spot in the rankings to have some respect but have plenty of teams in front of them to chase.
Norense Odiase narrated a video for the team about not buying in to the hype.
The Basketball team has been putting out videos to introduce the roster and has released ten of them to let the Red Raiders fans get to know the players heading into the season. There are some returners, but a lot of new faces join the program as well. That's becoming the norm in Lubbock though.
The coolest thing about the videos is that the players are defining themselves.
KJ Allen is ready to show a lot more this season after not being a factor in year one of him being in Lubbock.
Elijah Fisher joins the team after reclassifying this offseason to leave his Canadian high school a year early.
Lamar Washington is another true freshman that just wants to play hard. I think that's a common theme on this team. Not a surprise with Adams doing the recruiting.
Another freshman Robert Jennings has a high motor. Another way to say plays hard.
The son of Corey Williams, Corey Williams Jr. joined the team late in the process as a freshman.
Another freshman Richard Isaacs is a true point guard and loves to get his teammates involved by creating.
Jaylon Tyson is technically a returner but has yet to play a legit minute as a Red Raider. He was originally committed to Chris Beard at Texas Tech and then followed him to Austin before returning around New Year.
Daniel Batcho has more hype coming into the season than anyone on the roster.
Kerwin Walton transfers to Lubbock from North Carolina where he played the last few seasons for the Tar Heels.
D'maurian Williams transfers to Texas Tech from Gardner-Webb where he averaged 14.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.9 steals per game as a sophomore.
The season gets closer every day and I'm sure the final few player shorts will be released as we get closer to the season with Kevin Obanor, Fardaws Aimaq, and De'vion Harmon as the three seniors on the roster.
