Midwife Cottage of Lubbock Opens Its Doors [INTERVIEW]
Elizabeth Tombs, the operator of the new Midwife Cottage Birthing Center in Lubbock, joined Lubbock's First News Friday (August 21) along with Sarai Brinker and Leah Gregersen.
"A birth center is much like delivering at a home birth environment without being a home birth," said Tombs. "We allow for natural physiologic birth and that's what we do best."
Before the Midwife Cottage came to Lubbock, the closest birth centers to Lubbock were in Midland, El Paso or Fort Worth. The number of birth centers is growing with Texas having the most birth centers per capita.
Sarai Brinker, whose husband Jared is the Medical Director at the Midwife Cottage, experienced both a hospital birth and delivering at a birth center. She discussed the differences she experienced with both deliveries.
Leah Gregersen has also delivered both in a hospital's birth center and at home with her three children discussed the advantages and the disadvantages she experienced.
Since opening in Lubbock, Midwife Cottage has delivered three babies.
