Nicolas Cage Could Have Been in ‘Dumb & Dumber’ With Jim Carrey
It's almost mind-blowing to try to imagine how this would have turned out: Nicholas Cage says he could have been Jim Carrey's co-star in 'Dumb & Dumber' (Jeff Daniels ended up with the part).
Nic and Jim hit it off when they starred together in the 1986 movie 'Peggy Sue Got Married'. Years later, Jim asked Nic to do 'Dumb & Dumber' with him.
But Cage says, "I wanted to do a much smaller movie instead called 'Leaving Las Vegas'. So that didn't happen, but I've always admired his abilities" ('Dumb & Dumber' came out in 1994. 'Leaving Las Vegas' came out in 1995).
Cage went on to win an Oscar for 'Leaving Las Vegas'.
As for his relationship with Jim, he says, "You know, we don't really speak so much anymore. We used to be very close. Not that there's anything wrong. We just fell out of conversation. Who knows why?"
Here's a classic scene from 'Peggy Sue Got Married' in which Cage, Carrey and two other guys sing "I Wonder Why" by Dion & the Belmonts:
