On This Day in 1989 – The Fall of the Berlin Wall

On this day in 1989, the Berlin Wall started to come down. East Germany opened its heavily guarded borders at 11:17 P.M., and Germans celebrated by dancing atop the wall in lederhosen and chipping away at it with hammers.
