One Driver Dies in Two-Vehicle Accident on East Highway 84 [Updated]
Update: Thursday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety released the identity of the person who died in a two-vehicle accident near Slaton.
Maria Jasper (42) of Snyder, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the second vehicle, 20-year-old Hayden Powers of Lubbock transported to UMC with incapacitating Injuries.
According to Texas DPS's preliminary crash investigation, the 2017 Dodge Journey driven by Jasper was heading east on the wrong side of US-84 and collided head-on with Powers' vehicle, a 2013 Dodge Ram, that was heading west on US-84.
The group is still investigating the crash.
Original story: Just after midnight on Thursday, a major accident occurred just northwest of Slaton on East Highway 84 near Country Road 3300.
KAMC News is reporting that DPS troopers, EMS, and police responded to the scene, where a white vehicle is seen in photos to be heavily damaged on the side of the road.
Another news outlet reports that a black pickup and a white SUV collided. One of the drivers was killed, but they have yet to be identified. The other driver suffered undisclosed injuries and their current condition is unknown.
Texas DPS troopers closed westbound traffic for a short time to investigate the scene and also reduced eastbound traffic on Highway 84 to one lane.
