Owner of Aqua Kingz in Lubbock Arrested for Theft Out of Denton County
The owner of Aqua Kingz, a pool and hot tub service in Lubbock, was arrested on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 for theft.
KAMC News reports that 37-year-old Roderick Jeffrey was arrested for theft between $2,500 and $30,000. The charge came from Denton County.
The business was actually accused of taking money from customers and failing to provide pools or spas that they promised back in March 2022. Two customers apparently paid close to $85,000 for services they never received.
Both John and Shanna Smith from Big Spring, Texas said they paid Jeffrey around $35,000 as a down payment, but nothing "ever really progressed" on the construction of their pool. Shanna says that an excavator "sat in our yard for about three weeks, and someone else picked it up, and then we were like, we're done." Another customer, Vicki Whiteaker from Abilene, Texas, said she and her husband are out almost $50,000 due to Jeffrey's lack of communication.
Jeffrey claimed the delays for the Smiths were due to his daughter being sick and his truck breaking down. He said that the customers were impatient, and if they had just trusted him, he would've completed the jobs.
Since those incidents, Nicole Conner of Little Elm and Sierra Strickland of Midland have come forward to share similar experiences, saying that Jeffrey "ghosted" them and even tore down the wrong part of the fence, hitting a waterline and electrical line.
Jeffrey remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center for theft and will be transported to Denton County if he does not post bond.
