Petition Started to Remove 5 Members of the Texas Tech Board of Regents
A petition on change.org is making its way around social media on Thursday. The petition asks Texas Governor Greg Abbott to remove five of the nine regents of Texas Tech University.
The petition specifically asks Governor Abbott to remove Rick Francis, Ronnie Hammonds, Christopher Huckabee, Mickey Long, and John Steinmetz from the Texas Tech Board of Regents because of their reported 'no confidence' vote on Chancellor Robert Duncan last week.
As reported by multiple news outlets, five regents voted "no confidence" in Duncan, forced him to resign, and then planted false allegations of impropriety in the media. No evidence of any wrongdoing has been presented, and Duncan has had an immaculate reputation in his decades of public service.
We the undersigned, as students, faculty, alumni, and supporters of Texas Tech University, state our vote of No Confidence in Texas Tech regents Rick Francis, Ronnie Hammonds, Christopher Huckabee, Mickey Long, and John Steinmetz. These regents have shown that they do not serve the best interests of Texas Tech.
As of 3:15 p.m. Thursday (August 16th), over 300 people had signed the petition. You can view the petition here.
