Pizza Delivery Driver in the Metroplex Shoots and Kills Teenage Robber
A Domino's Pizza delivery driver in the Metroplex shot and killed a teenage boy after the boy lured him to an abandoned home in an attempt to rob him.
NBC 5 in Dallas/Fort Worth reports the incident occurred this past Saturday (May 6) in the 1400 block of Springwood Drive in Mesquite.
According to Mesquite Police, one of the suspects, 16 year-old Wayne Delaney Osborne, along with another unnamed teenager, placed an order for pizza so they could lure the delivery driver into a robbery. When the driver arrived at the residence on Springwood Drive, Osborne and his companion answered the door. One of the teens pulled a gun and fired at the driver, but the driver, also armed, shot back at them, striking and killing Osborne.
Officers arrived at the scene and medical examiners determined that Osborne was dead. The other teen accomplice was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.
Police say the home the driver delivered to was vacant and the "For Lease" sign was removed from the front lawn. Police determined that the teens used the empty house in an attempt plan to rob the driver.
According to the Mesquite Police Department, the delivery driver did not have a license to carry a gun in Texas, but he had one for Arizona. Texas law acknowledges Arizona CHL licenses.
Police have not released information regarding any possible charges against the delivery driver.
