On Thursday, August 25th, a Lubbock man was sentenced to 60 years in prison after he admitted to producing child pornography of a girl starting when she was 10-years-old.

KAMC News reports that back in November of 2020, 32-year-old Leonel Vela III was caught engaging in sexual activity with a minor by the victim's mother. The victim was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault exam after Vela left. The Garza County Sheriff's Office was called to their residence just before midnight that night.

The victim said in interviews that she was being abused since 2018. Vela admitted to investigators to producing child pornography of the girl when she was as young as 10.

Back in February of 2022, Vela pleaded guilty to 2 counts of production of child pornography. He was originally charged with only one count of production of child pornography and one count of enticement and attempted enticement of a minor, but the enticement charge was dropped at some point.

Vela has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for each count of production of child pornography, and the sentences were to be served consecutively. Therefore, he will serve a total of 60 years in prison.

Vela actually received the maximum sentence for production of child pornography. The minimum was reported to be 15 years.
