Lubbock Made Power Slap History Last Night — Here’s Who Won
Well, Lubbock can officially add another sport to the list.
Professional slap fighting.
Power Slap made its first-ever trip to Texas last night, Thursday, September 17th, taking over United Supermarkets Arena for Double Eagle Energy Power Slap 23: Wolverine vs. Greenhalgh.

And after wondering what thousands of people gathering inside an arena to watch grown men slap each other would actually look like, West Texas finally got its answer.
It involved championship belts, former UFC and WWE stars, knockouts, disqualifications and...unsurprisingly...a whole lot of people getting hit extremely hard in the face.

Wolverine Keeps His Championship in Lubbock
The night's main event featured Ron “Wolverine” Bata defending his Power Slap Light Heavyweight Championship against No. 1 contender Logan “Kill Shot” Greenhalgh.
Wolverine retained the championship, although probably not in the way everyone expected.

The match went all the way to Round 5 before Greenhalgh was disqualified for flinching, officially giving Bata the victory.
Power Slap had billed Wolverine as the most accomplished slap fighter in the sport's history, and he left Lubbock with his belt still around his waist.
Cole Young Didn't Need Five Rounds
The other championship fight ended considerably faster.
Welterweight champion Cole “Born Again” Young defeated Andrew “Big Bad Wolf” Provost by first-round TKO, successfully defending his title.
That's the interesting thing about buying a ticket to professional slap fighting. You may be settling in for several rounds.
Or somebody may get slapped and suddenly we're done here.

Former UFC Star Chris Barnett Wins His Power Slap Debut
One of the night's biggest names was former UFC heavyweight Chris “Beast Boy” Barnett, who made his Power Slap debut against Jake Logan.
Barnett didn't get the knockout, but he did get the victory.

All three judges scored the contest 29-28 for Barnett, giving him the unanimous decision. Afterward, Barnett apologized for not producing a knockout and said he wanted to improve his slapping power.
Jake Hager's Night Didn't Go Nearly as Well
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jake Hager, better known to wrestling fans as Jack Swagger, faced Johnny “The New Mexican Badass” Magna.
Magna won by third-round TKO following a doctor stoppage. Reports from the event said one of Magna's strikes caught Hager around the eye and caused bleeding that led to the stoppage.
The rest of the card included Brandon “B-52 Bomber” Wilson defeating Brian Ellis by second-round TKO, Hayden Johnson knocking out J Boujii in the first round, and Austin “Turp Daddy Slim” Turpin beating Wes “Boom” Mena by unanimous decision.
Carson Lee also defeated Alan “The Kryptonian” Klingbeil by disqualification for flinching in sudden victory.

Lubbock Was the First in Texas
Whatever you think about slap fighting (and I suspect there are some very strong opinions on both sides) Thursday night was legitimately a first for Lubbock.
Power Slap 23 was the organization's first live event anywhere in Texas, and Dana White chose United Supermarkets Arena on the Texas Tech campus for the occasion.
It also landed immediately before Texas Tech's big football weekend, something White said was intended to help bring additional energy to Lubbock ahead of the Red Raiders' game against Houston.
So there you have it.
Lubbock has hosted legendary concerts, college basketball, rodeos, monster trucks, wrestling and more football games than we could possibly count.
Now we've hosted a championship event where the primary strategy is standing perfectly still while another human being slaps you.
