Rock The Red: A Jennie Bailey Brain Cancer Benefit – April 12th
Nashville country music artist Billy Dawson will take the stage and join forces with hundreds of former Texas Tech football players and friends at the Rock The Red: A Jennie Bailey Brain Cancer Benefit set for Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Lubbock.
The Spring Football event is open to the public and fans can expect a special performance by Dawson along with appearances from former Texas Tech football players and coaches. All proceeds from Rock The Red benefit the Jennie Bailey Cancer Fund; instead of tickets, attendees are asked to contribute a $10 cash donation at the door. Fans should arrive early, as last year’s event reached capacity. Donated silent auction items and sponsors are still needed. Please contact Susie Burton (rsburton1@suddenlink.net) for more information. The evening is designed to celebrate football, friends and hope as Bailey embarks on her second year of cancer treatment.
ABOUT JENNIE BAILEY: For 28 years, Jennie Bailey has helped raise the student-athletes of the Texas Tech football program, giving each one someone to have as a second mom while away at school. Known as “Mama Bailey” to student-athletes, she is the longest tenured employee of the Texas Tech football program. After being diagnosed with brain cancer (Stage IV Glioblastoma) in March 2013 and fighting back, Mrs. Bailey continues to work with the program and brings new meaning to the term "Never Quit." Many Texas Tech fans might notice players and coaches on the sidelines wearing purple bracelets in her honor. Bailey is currently in the midst of her tenth round of chemotherapy, requiring a stronger dosage than previous rounds. Her specialized treatments require trips to Dallas hospitals for at least another year. In her 28 years with the Texas Tech athletic department, Bailey has touched countless lives. All these years later, those lives simply hope to return the favor.
ABOUT BILLY DAWSON: Dawson, a native of Sunray, Texas, is a multi-talented singer, entertainer, author and writer. He recently wrapped up in the studio with Grammy award-winning writer and producer Skidd Mills on a new album to be released in 2014. Dawson penned the new hit single “Texas Farm Girl” along with Texas Tech alum and award-winning Christian children’s book author, Rebecca Crownover. The duo plans to donate proceeds from iTunes song downloads to Jennie Bailey; Dawson has shared the stage with artists including Lady Antebellum, Thompson Square, One Republic, John Hiatt, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Colt Ford, Charlie Louvin and Cross Canadian Ragweed.
