On Saturday, August 15th, PBS Texas Tech Public Media is teaming up with the Science Spectrum Museum & OMNI Theater for the annual PBS Kids Summer Adventure, and it sounds like three hours of nonstop fun for the whole family.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and if your kids are fans of PBS favorites like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Wild Kratts, or Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum, they're going to feel like they've stepped right into their favorite TV shows.

Learning Has Never Been This Much Fun

One of the things I love about the Science Spectrum is that it has mastered the art of sneaking education into a day full of fun.

Kids leave thinking they just spent the day playing...while parents realize they actually learned something along the way.

That's exactly what the PBS Kids Summer Adventure is all about.

Throughout the morning, families can explore activity booths, collect free giveaways, enjoy live science demonstrations, meet live animals, and take part in hands-on activities designed to keep curious minds engaged.

It's one of those events where every few minutes there's something new to discover.

Meet Some Familiar Faces

Let's be honest, if you're bringing younger kids, there's one part of the day they're probably already talking about.

Live appearances from Clifford the Big Red Dog and Carl the Collector!

Getting to meet favorite PBS characters is always a highlight, and it makes for some pretty great family photos, too!

Free PBS Screenings All Morning Long

The fun doesn't stop with character meet-and-greets.

The OMNI Theater will host free PBS Kids movie screenings, including:

  • 10:30 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.– Xavier Riddle Celebrates American Heroes: Leaders

Seating is limited, so arriving early is a smart move.

Meanwhile, the Science Stage will feature free PBS episode screenings throughout the event:

  • 10:30 a.m. – Carl the Collector: Gratitude Collection / Fake Rock Collection
  • 11:30 a.m. – Weather Hunters: Properly Prepared
  • 12:30 p.m. – Wild Kratts Creature Power Challenge

One More Reason to Visit the Science Spectrum

If it's been a while since you've visited the Science Spectrum, this is the perfect excuse to go.

Your family can enjoy the Summer Adventure activities while also exploring one of Lubbock's favorite attractions, including interactive exhibits and the museum's popular Texas Alive: The Brazos River Journey aquarium.

With school just around the corner, the PBS Kids Summer Adventure is a great way to squeeze one more unforgettable family outing into the summer.

Science, animals, favorite TV characters, hands-on activities, and plenty of smiles?

That sounds like a pretty perfect Saturday in Lubbock!
