Tuesday evening (May 5), a severe thunderstorm spun up west of Wolfforth just before 6:30 p.m.

The fast-developing storm dropped golf ball sized hail in Wolfforth and pea to marble sized hail in Lubbock. There was sparse cloud cover with the storm as sunlight was still present when the storm moved into Lubbock.

The storm strengthened and cloud cover intensified after it crossed East Loop 289 and moved into Idalou and Crosby County.

An immense amount of rainfall came down in Idalou as Ron Roberts' Live Weather Site recorded 5.45 inches of rain on Tuesday.

When the core of the storm continued moving to the east, south of Ralls, before hitting FM 40 and Texas 208, it spawned a tornado.

Charlie Stout posted a photo of the tornado on Twitter, and you can see it pictured here.

Live wall-to-wall severe weather coverage with Ron Roberts was broadcast for over 30 minutes on News/Talk 790, KFYO, 98.1 KOOL FM and Lonestar 99.5 FM while the Tornado Warning was in effect for Crosby County.

Luckily the tornado spawned in open country and no additional funnels formed. KAMC News reported there were no injuries nor major damage to any structures in Ralls or Crosbyton.

Numerous storm chasers were in Crosby County Tuesday night, including Jeff Moore. Moore posted a video of the tornado, which you can see in this story.

Tuesday was another day of high rainfall amounts across the region.  The KFYO Studios in Southwest Lubbock received 2.75" inches of rain, Reagor-Dykes Toyota in Plainview received 3" inches of rain. The Texas Tech Mesonet site in Gail recorded 3.56", the Lake Alan Henry site 2.38" and 1.13" inches of rain in Tahoka.

Lake Alan Henry, one of Lubbock's sources for drinking water, is near capacity. The Lake Alan Henry Facebook page reports the current water level has risen to 2219.6 feet. The lake's capacity is 2220 feet and when the water hits that level, water will begin to go over the spillway.  Yesterday, on May 4 the lake's level was at 2209 feet.

More severe weather is expected for Lubbock and the South Plains on Wednesday and Thursday and Ron Roberts will have the latest weather updates on News/Talk 790, KFYO, 98.1 KOOL FM and Lonestar 99.5 FM.
